The Cosmopolitan was first served in the 1970s, and was invigorated by the famous TV Show, Sex and The City in the 1990s. It’s soft notes, sweet taste and smooth touch has truly turned it into a poolside favourite. But why is this cocktail so popular, and what are all the ingredients in a Cosmopolitan cocktail?
The Cosmopolitan is a layered cocktail comprising vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and fresh lime juice. It’s best to use a craft vodka which can be infused, and packs different flavours and it mixes well with orange, berry, lemon and lime juices, and even Ginger Beer.
The easy to source ingredients and its versatility is what makes the Cosmopolitan such a popular cocktail.

You will need:
Add to the shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Pour into a coupe or martini glass and garnish with an orange peel.
You can give your Cosmopolitan a different taste by adding different elements such as adding a few dashes of bitters, or an aesthetic lift by trying out new garnishes such as dehydrated lime powder or frozen cranberries for a deep red tone.
You can also introduce a more spicy or sour component by adding natural fruit flavouring to your cocktail to create the Sour Apple Cosmo, the Creamy Peach Cosmo and the Spicy Pineapple Cosmo.
